Phil Morris ...

I had been looking at the Caterham website on and off for a few months, waiting for the right opportunity. Today was it, so I called Lynda and Scott. Fantastic, the Supersport was available ! (probably because of the bad weather forecast !)

I made my way to Stamford Bridge and was surprised to find that the destination was Scott & Lynda’s house and not a garage. Scott met me, invited me into their beautiful home, made me a cappuccino (the quality of which would rival Starbuck’s !), had a chat, showed me some routes, signed a couple of forms and I was off, intending to return the next day.

Scott was concerned about the weather and suggested another day or if I was adamant, that I should practice on the main ‘A’ road going towards Driffield. I set off and had a blissful few minutes getting used to this amazing machine, then, as predicted, the heavens opened. I had no idea it was monsoon season in North Yorkshire!

I had to find cover, and quickly! Sitting in a queue of traffic getting progressively wetter, I spotted refuge in the form of an archway leading to a pub car park. The traffic was moving very slowly, but I eventually managed to manoeuvre the car up the cobbled track and into the shelter. PHEW !

Having no idea how long the rain would persist, I decided to put the hood on the car. I stepped down into what can only be described as a raging torrent, carrying gravel and sand over my shoes. After a few minutes I managed to connect all the press studs to hold down the roof and eventually the rain subsided.

I decided to go back to Scott’s house to dry out and borrow some more outerwear, a cap and an umbrella !

I re-started my adventure and became progressively more familiar with the car. I could see where the really bad clouds were and planned my route accordingly. I only got caught in one more downpour, and this time I was prepared. I just pulled to the side of the road, put up the umbrella and waited (smugly !) for the rain to pass.

Phil's wet weekend

The roads between Stamford Bridge and Malton were absolutely superb and the scenery stunning. I tried to head North towards Whitby to drive to Heartbeat country, but the sky looked a very threatening shade of charcoal, so I headed West towards Thirsk, Hovingham and Ripon. These roads are a driver’s paradise and I found myself quite literally ‘screaming’ with joy. To say this is the best fun I have had with my trousers on would be an understatement !!

During the course of the day the clouds disappeared and were replaced by beautiful sunny blue sky. I was in motoring heaven ! So many people would smile and wave enthusiastically, encouraging you to drop a gear and show off the car’s awesome acceleration. The only downside was that Scott expected me to take the car back at some stage, but I didn’t want the party to end !

Reluctantly, and still on a high, I returned the car. Scott and Lynda again made me feel so welcome. We discussed when it was next available so that I could take my son out and let him experience the same thrill that has put a smile on my face for the last 2 weeks !!

In conclusion, a life changing weekend, I am going to buy a Caterham.

...AND HE DID – AND HERE IT IS!

Proud Caterham owner

Thank you again Scott, Lynda and the umbrella !

a note from Scott and Lynda...

We have a policy that if the weather looks at all iffy, customers can call off and come back another day instead without cost.
In the face of meteorogical adversity one of our great Customer's Phil went for it instead with predictable consequences
However it cleared up and he did 300 miles, which was a one day record for a while and not only that, he DID buy a Caterham.

“...I’ve always assumed that a car like this would feel like an extension of your hands and feet, but it’s the other way round. I felt like a part of it, an organic component but a component nevertheless.”
